Who we are
Troop 279 is perfect for the Cub Scout crossing over or person new to Scouting who loves the outdoors, wants to learn new skills and values community service. Many of our Scouts come from Cub Scout Pack 66 but we have Scouts from as far away as Ballston Spa. Check out our photos to see us in action.

Troop 279 was chartered on April 1, 1970. That's over 45 years of Scouting tradition and adventures. If you plan to reach the rank of Eagle, Troop 279 is the right place for you. As of 2024, over 78 of our Scouts have become Eagle Scouts. Come with us on a journey and become one with the Timberjack.

Breathtaking adventures
We camp every month except for August. Below is a sample of what a year of outings looks like.
CAMPING & HIKINGWe like the outdoors a lot. Time spent in the outdoors has physical, mental and spiritual benefits. Plus, where do you think we get to practice everyhting we learn in Scouting.
SERVICE TO OTHERSThe level of community service is a good indication of the health of any society. "Do a Good Turn Daily" is a core Scouting precept. Scouting encourages young people to recognize the needs of others and take action accordingly.
CAMARADERIEWe excel at hanging out whether it be on a hike, at our weekly meeting or on a log in front of a campfire. Once you join our troop you become one of us...a Timberjack.

“The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”
